A deadly shooting unfolded today in the parking lot of a Target store in North Austin, leaving three people dead. Two victims died at the scene, while a third succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Another person was treated for unrelated injuries.
Police say the suspect, a man in his early 30s with a history of mental health issues, fled the scene after the shooting. He stole a vehicle from the Target parking lot, crashed it, then hijacked another car from a nearby dealership before being tased and taken into custody in South Austin.
Authorities are investigating whether the attack was random or targeted. City leaders expressed condolences to the victims’ families, while the store and surrounding area remain closed as the investigation continues.
