India Temporarily Suspends Most Postal Services to the U.S.
India’s Department of Posts has announced a temporary suspension of nearly all international mail services to the United States, starting August 25, 2025. Only basic items—such as letters, documents, and gifts under $100—will still be accepted.
This move comes in response to sweeping U.S. trade rules that end duty-free entry for packages valued under $800, now charging customs duties on most shipments. Due to unclear guidance and an unprepared system for collecting these duties, India and several other postal operators are pausing services until compliance processes are in place.
