FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — An emergency alert warning of an active shooter sent students and staff into lockdown at the University of Arkansas on Monday, but authorities confirmed by early afternoon that no shooting occurred.
A RazALERT text was issued shortly before 12:30 p.m., advising everyone to avoid Mullins Library, citing reports of gunfire and prompting immediate campus lockdowns. Nearby public schools were also put into a secure status, restricting entry and exit.
Law enforcement—including university, local, and state police agencies, with support from the FBI—responded swiftly. By around 1:45 p.m., officials reported no evidence of gunshots, injuries, or crime scenes after investigating multiple calls across campus. Several individuals were briefly detained, though none were arrested, and all were later released.
By about 2:30 p.m., the heightened police presence began to wind down, though some buildings remained under precautionary lockdown. Classes were canceled for the remainder of the day, though campus housing, dining, and transit continued running.
