DENVER — Colorado residents are getting a taste of “false fall” this week as cooler temperatures and repeated rounds of rain and thunderstorms move through the state.
A cool front settled in Monday, keeping highs in the low 70s across the Front Range with cloudy skies and scattered storms. Forecasters expect the pattern to continue through Friday, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms likely each day. Highs will range from 71 to 79 degrees, bringing relief from recent summer heat.
The wet weather is expected to benefit drought-stricken areas, though heavy downpours could also raise flash flooding concerns. Tuesday in particular could see stronger storms with localized flooding possible.
By the weekend, conditions are set to improve. Saturday and Sunday should bring more sunshine and warmer highs in the low 80s, offering Coloradans a pleasant close to August.
Meteorologists caution that this cool spell is temporary, and summer-like conditions are likely to return in early September. For now, residents are advised to keep umbrellas handy, plan outdoor activities in the morning, and take precautions during afternoon storms.
