Following President Trump’s declaration of a public safety emergency in Washington, D.C., 800 National Guard personnel have been activated under Title 32 authority to assist local and federal law enforcement. However, only 100 to 200 soldiers will be deployed on the streets at any given time.
Their responsibilities will focus on administrative tasks, logistical support, and providing a visible physical presence—not direct law enforcement or arrest powers. These actions are intended to free up police resources and reinforce public safety efforts during the emergency period.
